CAIRO- Egyptian Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Soha Gendi chaired an emergency meeting of the Permanent National Committee for Follow-up of Egyptian Students Abroad to discuss mechanism to handle the crisis of Egyptian university students in Sudan, amid the ongoing armed clashes in the country.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Thursday, the minister said the meeting comes to follow up on the situation of Egyptian university students in Sudan, as was the case with Egyptian students in Russia and Ukraine.

Gendi added the committee will work on specifying the exact number of students in Sudan and their places, as well as assessing the extent of danger they are facing to consider the possibility of drawing up an urgent plan for evacuating them.

The minister stated that she held a meeting via video-conference with 100 Egyptian students in Sudan who are members of the Ministry of Emigration Dialogue Center for Egyptians Studying Abroad (MEDCE) to check on their conditions amid the current turmoil in the country.
