DUBAI – The World Government Summit 2024 kicked off here Monday under the slogan “Envisioning the Governments of the Future,” and will continue until Wednesday with the participation of more than 25 heads of state and government, WAM News Agency reported.
The new edition of the summit anticipates future opportunities and challenges, highlighting the pressing issues facing the world, as well as discussing ways to achieve common visions to enhance governmental work and strengthen cooperation among world governments. It aims to exchange experiences and focus on inspiring stories and models in governmental work that have left positive impacts and brought about real changes in their countries and societies.
The agency added that the World Government Summit brings together 120 governmental delegations and more than 85 international and regional organisations and global institutions, in addition to a select group of global thought leaders and experts, with over 4000 participants attending.
It pointed out that the new edition of the World Government Summit features 6 main axes and 15 global forums discussing major global future trends and transformations in over 110 interactive and dialogical sessions, featuring 200 global figures including presidents, prime ministers, experts, thinkers, and future makers, as well as hosting more than 23 ministerial meetings and executive sessions with over 300 ministers.
The agency added that the World Government Summit witnesses the participation of several heads of governments including Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, who will speak during a key session as a guest of honor.
Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech during the first day of the summit, along with the participation of Prime Minister of Iraq Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani, Prime Minister of Cuba Manuel Marrero Cruz, and Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, in key sessions of the event.
During the summit, high-level ministerial meetings will be held including the ministerial meeting for sustainable development, a ministerial meeting to discuss the characteristics of the next generation of future governments, a meeting of Arab finance ministers, a consultative meeting with labor ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and an energy ministers’ meeting to discuss the future of hydrogen energy.
The current edition of the World Government Summit presents several international awards in appreciation of government ministers, private sector representatives, innovators, and creators for their exceptional contributions to building a better society for humanity. These include the Best Minister in the World Award, the Dubai International Award for Best Sustainable Development Practices, the Creative Government Innovations Award, the Global Award for Best Government Applications, and the Global Government Excellence Award.
