NEW YORK – World Health Organisation (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Monday warned of the risks of the outbreak of famine across the Gaza Strip.
He asserted the need of ensuring the sustainable delivery of assistance and life-saving supplies to Palestine’s health facilities, reiterating the call for reaching a ceasefire.
“The WHO and partners completed a mission to Al-Ahli Arab and Al-Sahaba hospitals in northern Gaza yesterday: both hospitals are functioning with limited capacity, and lack food, fuel, specialised staff, anaesthetic drugs, antibiotics and internal fixation devices,” the head of WHO wrote on his official account on the social media platform “X”.
“We delivered orthopedic and trauma items for 150 patients and 13,000L of fuel to Al-Ahil Arab hospital, and 12,000L of fuel to Al-Sahaba hospital.
“We need sustained, safe access to health facilities in order to supply them with urgently needed lifesaving healthcare on a regular basis.”
