US President Donald Trump discussed with visiting Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohamed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz bilateral relations and efforts to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries in various fields.
Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported Wednesday that their meeting also covered regional and international developments, ways to strengthen security and stability at both the regional and international levels, as well as an array of issues of mutual interest and efforts exerted in this regard.
At the conclusion of the summit talks, the two sides signed the Strategic Defense Agreement.
A number of strategic bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding were also signed, including the Strategic Partnership for Artificial Intelligence, the Joint Statement to complete negotiations on cooperation in civil nuclear energy, the Strategic Framework for Partnership in securing supply chains for uranium, minerals, permanent magnets and critical minerals, along with an agreement to facilitate and accelerate Saudi investments.
According to SPA, the Strategic Defense Agreement “comes within the framework of the strategic partnership and historical ties between Saudi Arabia and the US for more than ninety years. It represents a pivotal step that strengthens the long-term defense partnership and reflects the commitment of both parties to supporting peace, security and prosperity in the region.”
The agreement affirms that the two sides “are security partners capable of working together to confront regional and international challenges and threats, deepening long-term defense coordination, enhancing deterrence capabilities and readiness levels, developing and integrating defense capacities between the two parties and providing a solid framework for a continued and sustainable defense partnership that contributes to strengthening the security and stability of both countries.
