ADEN – US envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking stressed the need to seize the opportunity of the truce to overcome the problems of continuous aid access and increase humanitarian funding, according to media reports.
The US State Department for Near Eastern Affairs stated, through its Twitter account according to MENA, that the US envoy spoke to international non-governmental organizations to learn about their experiences in Yemen and to discuss what is needed to reduce suffering throughout Yemen.
The office of the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, welcomed the Arab coalition’s release of Houthi prisoners, and the Houthis and the Yemeni government’s release of others earlier, noting that the parties agreed last month on another prisoner exchange process.
Prior to that, the Coalition to Support Legitimacy confirmed the end of the process of releasing and transferring 163 Houthi prisoners as part of the Saudi humanitarian initiative, stressing that the initiative came from a humanitarian premise to end the prisoner file and support peace efforts.
