Spanish Ambassador to Egypt Alvaro Iranzo Gutiérrez asserted that the UNRWA plays a pivotal role for providing humanitarian aid supplies to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip where more than 26,000 people were killed.
In statements to MENA, Gutiérrez said that Spain urged that the UNRWA conduct internal investigations and clarify the possible relation between its members and a number of organizations including Hamas, pointing out to the Israeli allegations on the UNRWA.
Meanwhile, Spain asserted that the role of the UNRWA should be appreciated in the crisis in Gaza, he said.
The UNRWA lost over 152 employees since the start of war in Gaza, Gutiérrez added.
Since the start of the crisis in Gaza, Spain decided to increase its share in the UNRWA budget, he said.
It is about time to find solution to the conflict, he said, asserting that the Palestinians should have their own state where they can live with dignity.
