RAMALLAH/NEW YORK- The United Nations (UN) Security Council is expected to hold an emergency closed session Thursday, at the joint request of Palestine and Jordan and with the support of the UAE and China, to discuss Israeli violations at Al Aqsa Mosque in Al Quds (East Jerusalem), according to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA).
The request comes after the brutal attack of Israeli occupation forces on Palestinian worshippers in Al-Qibli Mosque Wednesday and forcefully removing them from the holy compound to clear the way for the storming of Jewish fanatics marking the Passover holiday.
Since the beginning of this year, the Security Council held its monthly sessions on the Middle East conflict on time, but it has also held emergency sessions and closed consultations due to the continued Israeli violations, as well as the rise in Israeli settlement activities.
The occupation forces stormed on Tuesday night, early Wednesday and last night Al Aqsa Mosque compound following Ramadan night prayers, Tarawih and dawn, al-Fajr, prayers and brutally assaulted the worshipers in Al-Qibli Mosque forcibly removing, injuring and arresting hundreds of them to clear the area for the Jewish fanatics to storm the holy compound in the morning and perform Jewish Passover rituals in violation of the decades-long status quo that states the entire 114-dunum walled holy compound is a Muslim-only prayer area.
