LONDON – UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed over phone with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu escalating situation across the Middle East, according to the UK government’s website Wednesday.
During the call, Starmer also underlined the importance of a ceasefire in Lebanon to allow space for a political solution in line with UNSC Resolution 1701.
He also raised the situation in Gaza and the importance of a ceasefire and action to bring home the hostages.
The premier expressed the UK’s steadfast commitment to Israeli security and the protection of civilians.
He also spoke to French President Emmanuel Macron and agreed that there was an urgent need for de-escalation, with all parties needing to show restraint.
In his phone call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, they agreed that further escalation was in nobody’s interest and that all sides should show restraint.
