ANKARA – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Egypt is playing an important role in dispatching humanitarian and relief assistance to the Gaza Strip.
Cairo and Ankara have been regularly working since the onset of the crisis, he said, adding the two sides are at constant consultations.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who is currently visiting Ankara, Fidan said he discussed with the Egyptian foreign minister a number of regional issues, including the Palestinian cause.
Egypt and Turkey are cooperating to serve the interests of both nations, he went on to say.
Fidan said a joint declaration was signed in Cairo on the re-establishment of the high-level strategic cooperation council between the two countries and that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will visit Turkey on the occasion of the convocation of the council.
He added he discussed with Shoukry preparations for meetings of the council.
Turkish investments in Egypt reach approximately three billion dollars and the volume of trade between the two countries hits about eight billion dollars.
