US President Donald Trump announced that he had called off planned military strikes on Iran scheduled for Thursday, just hours after warning of additional bombings and expressing interest in “taking” Kharg Island, a key hub for Iranian oil exports.
“In light of the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have reached the highest levels of its leadership and received approval, I, as President of the United States, have canceled the strikes and bombings that were set to take place this evening,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He added that the United States and several regional partners — including Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others — had agreed on “discussions and final points.”
“The Naval Blockade will remain fully in place until this agreement is finalized. The time and location for the signing will be announced soon,” he said.
