For the first time in its history, Tanta University is among the top universities in the world, according to the British QS World University Rankings, the university president said Tuesday.
President of Tanta University Dr Mahmoud Zaki added that the university ranked 101 out of 150 globally and the 4th locally in the field of engineering.
Tanta comes 551th out of 600 globally and the 4th locally for medicine and life sciences.
The QS Rankings, an annual classification for universities worldwide, this year included 1,453 universities in 157 countries, classified according to five main fields and 51 sub-fields, Zaki said.
The Nature Index, which assesses all research outputs from Egyptian universities from 1 December 2019 to 30 November 2020, Tanta University came first locally in earth and environmental sciences, Zaki said.
He added that the university has also reached seventh place in chemistry, according to citations and publications appearing in 82 scientific journals.
