The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the decision issued by the US Treasury Department to grant a comprehensive and immediate exemption from the sanctions imposed on Syria.
In a statement broadcast by Syrian state television on Saturday, the ministry described the US decision as “a positive step in the right direction to alleviate humanitarian and economic suffering in Syria.” It added that Syria extends its hand to all who are willing to cooperate on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs, affirming that dialogue and diplomacy are the most effective means to build balanced relations that serve the interests of peoples and promote security and stability in the region.
The ministry also expressed its appreciation to all countries, institutions, and peoples that have stood by Syria. It emphasized that the coming phase will focus on rebuilding what was destroyed by the former regime and restoring Syria’s natural role in the region and the world.
The US Treasury Department had issued on Friday a decision for significant and immediate sanctions relief on Syria, with certain exceptions.
