Spanish FM urges launching Arab-European initiative to hold int’l conf. on Mideast peace

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares called for launching a joint Arab-European initiative to hold in Spain an international conference for peace in the Middle East.

Albares made the remarks while addressing the Arab League council at the permanent delegates level in the presence of the AL Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit.

He stressed the importance of establishing a Palestinian state and launching a European-Arab initiative for sustainable peace.

He said Spain called for holding the conference, noting that the Spanish vision will be reviewed at the European Summit due to be held later in March.

He asserted that it is time to launch the Arab-European initiative to hold an international peace conference as soon as possible.

He called for immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip , lauding the stand adopted by Egypt and Qatar to facilitate humanitarian aid access.

He stressed the importance of avoiding any military operation in Rafah.

Meanwhile, AL Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit thanked Spain for its noble stands supporting the Palestinians’ rights.
