Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi said his country rejects Israel’s announcement recognizing part of Somalia’s territory calling the claim is legally baseless and not open to interpretation or bargaining.
The minister said, according to Somalia’s State News Agency SONNA Sunday, that Israel has no legal standing that would qualify it to recognise the territory of a sovereign state.
Fiqi added that Israeli actions threaten Somalia’s national security and pose risks to shared Arab and African security, maritime navigation and stability in Red Sea states. He said the move aims to facilitate the forced displacement of Palestinians to Somalia and to seize a strategic region.
The Somali minister reaffirmed his country’s full support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and to live freely and with dignity on their land, condemning what he described as brutal violations against Palestinians.
