South Korean Ambassador in Cairo Hong Jin-wook hosted a function on Monday to commemorate the 27th anniversary of Egypt-South Korea diplomatic relations.

Egyptian government officials, businesspeople and journalists attended the ceremony.

Guests watched a documentary on the South Korean Embassy’s public diplomacy, which aims to get closer to the Egyptian people.

The film also dwelt on bilateral co-operation since the Comprehensive Co-operative Partnership in 2016 when President Abdel Fattah El Sisi paid an official visit to Seoul.

Minister of Finance Mohamed Maeet, Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas Helmi and South Korea-Egypt Business Council chairman Khalid Nosseir attended the event.

Finance Minister Mohamed Maeet referred to the rapidly expanding bilateral relations, especially since President Sisi’s visit to South Korea in 2016 and the South Korean President’s visit to Egypt earlier this year.

The minister re-affirmed Egyptian government efforts to attract more South Korean investment.

Professor of Korean language department at Ain Shams University Sarah Benjamin and her student Maya Hani delivered a speech in Arabic and Korean language for the occasion, pointing out how the South Korean and Egyptian cultures have grown closer in recent years with the spread of K-pop, K-drama and Korea/Arab studies and that Ain Shams University has played a major role in spreading the Korean language in Egypt to underscore the importance of language in bringing people together.
