DAMASCUS/MOSCOW – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed with Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad a number of international and regional issues and the issue of escalation that the Middle East region is currently witnessing.

“Special attention was paid to the issue of the continuing escalation of the situation in the Middle East,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website on Friday regarding the meeting between both sides in Moscow Thursday.

The two ministers stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza Strip and to find solutions to the severe humanitarian problems of the residents of the Strip, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said.

The two ministers discussed issues related to the situation in Syria, including post-war reconstruction, and commitment to the principles of respecting its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, the statement added according to MENA
