US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asserted on Wednesday the US will not give up its obligations toward Taiwan.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, Pelosi said the US delegation came to Taiwan to say the US will – undoubtedly – never relinquish its commitments toward Taiwan.
The US is proud of its permanent friendship with Taiwan, she added.
The US Congress is committed to security of Taiwan and its right to defend itself, according to Pelosi.
Pelosi said Taipei is always enjoying freedom and safety, underscoring the necessity of solidarity with Taiwan especially in the current period.
In turn, Taiwan president said her country will not back down in the face of threats with China gearing up for major military exercises around the island in retaliation for the visit.
