The official spokesman for the Palestinian presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, said that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital is the only solution to achieve security and stability.
Rudeineh was reacting to statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in which he said that Israel should block the path to the aspirations of the Palestinians for an independent state, said WAFA news agency.
“The Palestinian state exists and is recognised by more than 140 countries, and it only needs to end the occupation to materialise its independence,” said Abu Rudeineh in a statement.
“The occupation is dreaming if it thinks that it can perpetuate this occupation by continuing the aggression against the Palestinian people, escalating the policy of killing, settlements, land theft and other aggressive actions that violate international legitimacy resolutions, including Resolution 2334,” he added.
“Netanyahu’s statements show the world the true Israeli intentions that reject international legitimacy and international law, and that there is no Israeli partner that wants to achieve peace based on international legitimacy,” said the presidential spokesman.
The State of Palestine is an observer member of the United Nations and in many international and United Nations organisations, and has received international recognition for that, he said.
He called on the international community, particularly the US administration, to intervene and hold Israel accountable for its actions and words that contravene international legitimacy, and to compel it to abide by UN resolutions related to the Palestinian issue in establishing the independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders, so that the region can enjoy stability and peace.
