RAMALLAH – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, aka Abu Mazen, strongly condemned the assassination of head of Hamas political bureau Ismail Haniyeh considering it a cowardly act and a dangerous development.
In a statement Wednesday, Abu Mazen called on the Palestinian people to unite, exercise patience and remain steadfast in the face of the Israeli occupation.
Earlier in the day, Hamas confirmed the assassination of Haniyeh in an Israeli raid on the Iranian capital, Tehran, on the sidelines of his participation in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president.
Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation Hussein al-Sheikh, also condemned the assassination of the head of the political bureau of the Hamas movement. He described the assassination as a “dangerous escalation,” calling on the Palestinian people to remain steadfast, united and cohesive in the wake of the escalation of the Israeli aggression.
