CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi sent on Tuesday a cable of greetings to Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia General David John Hurley on the occasion of his country’s National Day.
President Sisi delegated Chamberlain of the Presidency Ahmed el Ansari to the Australian Embassy in Cairo.
Australia Day is observed annually on 26 January. It marks the 1788 landing of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove and the raising of the Union Flag by Arthur Phillip following days of exploration of Port Jackson in New South Wales.
