At AstraZeneca, we are pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines – boosting our values of being entrepreneurial and putting patients first, constantly innovating when it comes to our pipeline and our approach.
We also firmly believe that our future depends on healthy people, a healthy society, and a healthy planet. These elements are interconnected, and together we must build a sustainable future.
We are committed to improving the lives of millions of patients across MEA, together with our partners, with a focus on innovation, sustainability and therapy area leadership.
With a history surpassing five decades in Egypt; the company is offering full support to Egyptian patients through bringing innovative medicines and patient solutions with the chief aim of enhancing the quality of life while also supporting our society.
Sustainability at AstraZeneca is about using our capabilities to make the most meaningful impact on society. We know that the health of people, the planet and our business are interconnected, each impacting the others. Our goal is to integrate sustainability into every aspect of our enterprise, going beyond meeting our annual and longer-term targets, to evolving our mindset and our practices to meet changing times. This is both a responsibility and a business opportunity.
Our Sustainability and societal efforts mainly evolve around our three strategic sustainability priorities: Access to healthcare – Environmental protection – Ethics and transparency.
Partnership for Health System Sustainability & Resilience (PHSSR):
Glad with our recent partnership for health system sustainability & resilience “PHSSR” with the Ministry of Health, which aims to develop more sustainable and resilient healthcare systems.
Young Health Programme (YHP):
Also, our flagship programme “the Young Health Programme (YHP)” aims at mitigating NCDs at youth level, helping them take better choices towards a healthier lifestyle at their early stages. Its target is to reach 700,000 young people in Egypt throughout five years with the endorsement of the five ministries and multiple partners.
Moreover, it gives us immense pride to be recognised twice during conferences under the auspices of the Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, for our efforts in sustainability and for supporting the Egyptian economy.
We are motivated by the shared commitment to improve the population’s health and to support the strengthening of the global public health ecosystem.
Manufacturing Site:
As for our continuous efforts to protect the environment, we are proud to declare that our manufacturing site in Sixth of October city is the First EMEA site to be recognised as a certified Green Lab for the outstanding efforts in reducing the environmental impacts. In 2020, this site has managed to achieve Zero Greenhouse Gases through great efforts to rationalise energy and water consumption by installing solar panels, led lights, motion sensors and avoiding any use of plastic products.
Green Roof Classrooms:
The programme focuses on youth at schools, providing them with Green roof classrooms through “Shagara” programme for a greener and healthier learning process in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden.
Green Hospitals with Gahar:
Proud also of our recent partnership with GAHAR to support our sustainability strategy towards ‘Green Hospitals’ across Egypt, on our way to COP27.
