Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted richly embroidered ‘Chadar’ for offering at Ajmer Sharif Dargah on the occasion of the 810th Urs of Khawaja Moin-ud-din Chisti, according to a statement by the Indian Embassy in Cairo.
Ajmer Sharif is the tomb (dargah) of 13th century Sufi saint Khawaja Moin-ud-din Chisti who came to India from Persia and started preaching in Ajmer. Later, he established the popular Chishtiyya order. After his death in March 1236, the site became highly revered. Owing to his secular preachings, Shrine’s door are open to people of all faiths & religions and is considered to be one of the most prominent pilgrimage site in Indian sub-continent.
It is believed that if one pray with a pure heart at the Ajmer Dargah, one’s wish is bound to be fulfilled.
This prestigious shrine, built by the Mughal Emperor Humayun features a series of massive silver doors leading to the courtyard where the tomb is centred. Made of marble with intricate gold plating, the actual tomb is guarded by silver railing and marble screen. Emperors Akbar and Shahjahan added mosques to Shrine complex. There is a sense of peace and serenity inside the dargah.
