MANILA – A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Ilocos Norte and was felt in other parts of northern Luzon before dawn on Wednesday, ABS CBN News said quoting the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The tectonic tremor hit 4 kilometers southwest of Bangui town at 2:54 am. It struck at a depth of 23 kilometers.
The quake could spawn damage and aftershocks, Phivolcs warned.
The institute added that the earthquake was felt at a “strong” Intensity 5 in Laoag, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Burgos, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Adams, Sarrat and San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte.
This intensity could cause strong shaking in buildings, make hanging objects swing violently, and rouse people from sleep, Phivolcs said.
It said the earthquake was also felt in other areas at the following intensities.
