AMMAN – King Abdullah II of Jordan received on Sunday US senators Christopher Van Hollen and Jeff Merkley, members of the Appropriations Committee of the United States Senate.
The meeting, that was attended by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II of Jordan, addressed the strategic partnership between the two countries and the critical developments in Gaza.
King Abdullah II emphasised the necessity of taking action for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, protecting civilians, alleviating the humanitarian catastrophe in the region, and ensuring the continuous delivery of aid. He reiterated Jordan’s rejection of attempts to displace Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, emphasising the importance of enabling the people of Gaza to return to their homes.
The Jordanian monarch warned against hostile actions carried out by settlers against Palestinians, violations of Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem, stressing that failure to address these actions and violations would escalate the situation in the region and lead to regional war.
The US Senators affirmed that the tragic humanitarian situation in Gaza is unacceptable, emphasising that the humanitarian crisis in the region is rapidly worsening.
They also stressed the need for a comprehensive and permanent solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on a two-state solution, appreciating Jordan’s leadership, led by the King, in this regard.
