Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei announced Thursday that he has authorized the recent memorandum of understanding signed by the Iranian and U.S. presidents, despite harboring personal reservations about the agreement.
In a written address to the nation, Khamenei stated he gave the green light only after receiving firm assurances from President Masoud Pezeshkian and top officials that Iran’s sovereign rights and the interests of the regional “Resistance Front” would be fully protected.
Khamenei noted that Pezeshkian, acting as head of the Supreme National Security Council, has accepted total responsibility for the deal’s outcomes. The Supreme Leader emphasized that the president pledged never to yield if Washington makes “excessive demands,” making it clear that future face-to-face negotiations do not equate to capitulating to “the enemy’s position.”
