Israel’s defence minister said Sunday that Israeli forces have full authorisation to respond to any danger they encounter inside Lebanon, emphasising that the military will remain within the designated security zone established across the border.
“There has never been, and there is still no restriction on IDF soldiers operating in Lebanon to eliminate threats… As Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I have stated: Israel will not pull back from the security zone in Lebanon,” Israel Katz said in a statement. The zone extends about 10 kilometers, or six miles, into Lebanese territory, where Israeli troops are currently positioned.
Katz’s comments followed a warning from Iran, which said it would refuse to enter broader negotiations with Washington unless the conflict in Lebanon is brought to an end.
