Israel carried out strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday, only days after a fragile ceasefire brokered in Washington officially began.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attacks were a response to earlier fire from the Hezbollah militant group toward northern Israel. Hezbollah has not yet confirmed involvement in those earlier strikes.
This marks the second time Israel has targeted the dense urban areas since the first Lebanon-Israel agreement took effect on April 17. Strikes across southern Lebanon continue on a daily basis, with ongoing clashes between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli forces.
Residents reported hearing three explosions in the area, though the specific targets were not immediately known.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
