Israel has assassinated the head of Iran’s military (Revolutionary Guards) as it carried out what what it described as a “pre-emptive strike” on the regime’s nuclear sites.
General Hossein Salami was killed along with scientists as Israel launched a wave of attacks on Iran’s nuclear programme.
Iran has confirmed that the leader of its Revolutionary Guards has been killed in the attacks.
Israel said it is braced for a retaliatory drone and missile attack.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, said the military campaign will continue for “as many days as it takes”, raising fears of all out war.
