Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi left for Moscow late Sunday after the brief visit to Islamabad, two Pakistani officials said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media on the record.
Pakistan’s political and military leadership had been trying to facilitate a second round of direct talks between the United States and Iran.
The effort stalled after neither Washington nor Tehran sent envoys for the proposed talks.
Araghchi remained in Islamabad for more than three hours, and the officials said indirect talks between the two sides were ongoing.
Pakistani authorities did not announce his arrival from Oman or confirm his departure, and no official explanation was given for the secrecy.
There was no statement from the Foreign Ministry or the Information Ministry.
