LONDON – Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce how England will “live with Covid” Monday as he considers dropping all remaining restrictions, The Guardian reported.
The prime minister will meet his cabinet ministers to agree on the plan for living with the virus after almost two years of restrictions, according to Number 10.
Boris Johnson will proclaim that the lifting of all remaining Covid restrictions in England this week marks a “moment of pride” when he unveils the government’s long-term strategy for living with the virus, despite concerns from scientists, health experts and Labor that the move is premature, the paper said.
The legal requirement for anyone with Covid to isolate will be ditched a month earlier than planned, while free PCR and lateral flow tests for everyone will be axed to rein in public spending and attempt to restore people’s confidence that life can return to normality, according to the paper.
Johson is then expected to update parliament on the plans this afternoon before holding a news conference to reveal details to the public in the evening, it said.
