Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty Thursday hailed the development of the Egyptian-Serbian relations throughout the past years.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting with visiting Serbian Prime Minister Duro Mascut, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf.

Abdelatty hailed the anticipated implementation of the free trade agreement signed between Egypt and Serbia in July 2023, describing it as a potential game-changer for bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

He commended Serbia’s announcement to open its first representation office of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce in Cairo.

Abdelatty highlighted the importance of holding the 19th session of the joint economic committee in the second half of 2025, alongside the regular meetings of the joint business council.

The top Egyptian diplomat reviewed investment opportunities available in Egypt for Serbian companies, particularly those stemming from Egypt’s trade agreements with Arab and African countries.

Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s readiness to enhance cooperation in renewable energy and gas, especially in light of Serbia’s recent growth in the renewable energy sector.

He also highlighted Egypt’s interest in increasing Serbian tourist flows.

He expressed appreciation for Serbia’s support of Khaled el Enany’s candidacy for Director-General of the UNESCO.

Meanwhile, the two sides exchanged views on current geopolitical tensions, in particular the military escalation between Israel and Iran, and the Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Abdelatty shed light on Egypt’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and broker a ceasefire deal there. He further hailed Serbia’s support of the Palestinian issue.
