BRUSSELS/AMMAN – Jordanian Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said Monday that the European Union plays an essential role in maintaining security of the region, noting that Amman will work with the EU to reach a ceasefire in Gaza Strip and end tensions.
Safadi, ahead of talks involving Arab foreign ministers on the war in Gaza on the sidelines of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, pointed out that Israel, with its current policy, is destroying the future of peace and security in the region. He emphasised that the only solution to the situation in Palestine is the two-state solution.
The Jordanian Foreign Minister went on to say that “We expect a clear dialogue today, and we hope to reach a collective conviction that further killing will only endanger not only regional security and peace but also international security and peace. We want to work together for a ceasefire.”
Safadi asserted that the entire region is suffering a lot of tensions, and what we want is to work together to end all these tensions on the basis of ensuring security and peace for everyone and respecting the sovereignty of all countries.
He added, “If the whole world says that the solution is the two-state solution, then the Israeli forces should adhere to that, and the international community should.” He stressed that it is time for everyone to stand for peace, for the region to live in peace, security, and dignity, and for measures to be taken against parties that do not care about that.
He called on the European Union to work on stopping and putting “an end to this hatred, violence, and moving together towards implementing the two-state solution and the process, which must be in this context.
Safadi said, “We need to determine what we should follow in this path to take a road that leads us to permanent peace with the European Union, to stop the ceasefire and provide more humanitarian aid to Gaza, and to work together on a plan that will help stabilize the situation and achieve permanent peace by recognizing the freedom and independence of the Palestinian state, living peacefully alongside the Israeli state.
Safadi concluded that this war will not lead us to any peace, and Israel will not have any security as long as Palestinian rights are not recognized. We need to commit to this clear approach for everyone, and everyone should be clear in putting an end to this violence, he added.
