Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aatti held separate telephone calls on Thursday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi to review the outcomes of the latest round of US-Iran negotiations in Geneva.
This is in line with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to reduce regional tensions.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf said that Abdel-Aatti received detailed briefings from both sides on the Geneva talks.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for diplomatic efforts to resolve outstanding issues, stressing the importance of sustaining the negotiation process to prevent escalation in the region.
The minister stressed the necessity of addressing all pending disputes and outstanding issues in the US-Iran negotiations through compromise, underscoring the importance of avoiding military options and their potentially severe consequences.
Both Araqchi and Grossi expressed appreciation for Egypt’s ongoing efforts to reduce regional tensions and affirmed their commitment to continued coordination and consultation to reach a comprehensive settlement to the Iranian nuclear issue and promote security and stability in the region.
