BAGHDAD – The Security Media Cell (SMC) in Iraq announced that 15 citizens were wounded after a bomb went off in the Maridi market area of Sadr City, a suburb in the eastern part of Baghdad.

“Following the news of the explosion in a market in Sadr City, east of the capital, Baghdad, after investigation and gathering information, it was found that the accident was the explosion of a homemade explosive device, which was placed under one of the “kiosks in the Maridi market”, which led to the injury of 15 citizens,” the SMC revealed in a statement NINA reported Wednesday.

It added that most of the wounded had been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment.

Anti-explosives and forensic experts have moved to the blast scene, and security forces have opened a probe into the incident, the SMC said.
