Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad took part, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, in the extraordinary meeting of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), which took place on the fringe of the 78th session of the General Assembly (UNGA 78).
The CAHOSCC is one of the African Union Assembly’s high-level committees that aims to coordinate African stance regarding climate change, spearheading the joint African stance ahead of the anticipated UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) along with unifying African voices at the climate change negotiations at the international level.
While addressing the extraordinary meeting of the committee, Fouad affirmed the importance of unifying African voices and upholding the two African initiatives on climate resilience and new and renewable energy that were adopted by Paris Agreement in 2015, in tandem with Egypt’s presidency of the African group and during president Sisi’s chairmanship of the COP27 committee.
