CAIRO – Egypt’s Foreign Minister and president-designate of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) received on Friday UK representative, COP26 President, Alok Sharma, for talks on means of coordinating with all parties to boost International Climate Action.
In statements, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid said that during their meeting, Sharma hoped that COP27 will succeed in promoting International Climate Action.
The UK official also listened to Shoukry’s assessment of a number of issues tabled on the conference’s agenda, topped by raising funds to face climate change, promoting climate adaptation measures, cushioning impacts of climate change and addressing climate losses and damages.
The spokesman said that Sharma asserted his country’s commitment to the pledges that were announced at the Glasgow climate conference (COP26), adding his country will announce new pledges to boost its contributions to international climate action.
Sharma further underlined that the British prime minister’s announcement of the UK government’s commitment to triple funding for climate adaptation as part of that budget, from £500m in 2019 to £1.5bn in 2025, the spokesman said.
Shoukry, for his part, expressed his appreciation of efforts exerted by the UK COP26 Presidency, the spokesman added.
