CAIRO — Egypt’s Ambassador in Nicosia Mohamed Zazoua hosted a dinner banquet at the Egyptian residence in honor of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, with the presence of Arab ambassadors, to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

The Cypriot president praised Egypt’s regional role, describing it as both pioneering and pivotal and describing Egypt as a cornerstone of peace, stability and security in the Middle East region, according to a press statement released late Monday.

He also commended the strategic relations between Cyprus and Egypt, as well as the broader Arab world, highlighting the shared goal of further strengthening and advancing these relations.

For his part, Ambassador Zazoua expressed his happiness and appreciation for the honor of hosting the Cypriot president to dinner, emphasizing commitment to supporting and enhancing the Egyptian-Cypriot relationship, and promising to do more to foster cooperation in various political, economic, social and cultural domains.

He underscored the historical and cultural bonds between Egypt and Cyprus, acknowledging the exceptional nature of their bilateral relations and the positive developments they have experienced across all areas, under the guidance of the political leadership in both countries.

He reaffirmed, according to MENA, Egypt’s unwavering support for Cyprus regarding the Cyprus issue, in line with relevant United Nations resolutions. Also, he expressed deep appreciation for Cyprus’s support on crucial issues, particularly those linking Egypt with the European Union.

The event saw an exchange of views on various important regional issues, as well as international topics of shared concern, particularly the escalating tensions in the Middle East region.

Accompanying President Christodoulides at the dinner were the Cypriot minister of defense and the deputy minister responsible for European affairs.
