NEW YORK – Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Osama Abdel Khaleq warned against the failure to implement the provisions of the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Agreement, which aims to maintain the ceasefire and ensure stability in the region.

Speaking at a UN Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East, Abdel Khaleq condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval of two bills asserting so-called Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, describing the move as a blatant violation of international law.

He welcomed the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice, which reaffirmed that international law prohibits any attempts to displace or starve the Palestinian people.

He stressed that the ruling represents a significant step in supporting legitimate Palestinian rights.

Ambassador Abdel Khaleq stressed the importance of enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their inalienable rights, topped by the right to establish an independent state.

He underlined that achieving lasting peace in the region requires Israel’s withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories.

He also reaffirmed Egypt’s solidarity with Syria and Lebanon in safeguarding their legitimate rights and territorial integrity.
