CAIRO – Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed Egypt’s solidarity with Somalia against attempts to violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This came at a meeting held by the Foreign Minister, during his visit to the Ugandan capital of Kampala to participate in the Non-Aligned Countries Summit, with the Acting Foreign Minister of Somalia, Ali Mohamed Omar.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said that Sameh Shoukry stressed during the meeting the importance that Egypt attaches to relations with Somalia given their strong historical bonds at the popular and official levels.
Shoukry emphasized Egypt’s concern about the security and stability of Somalia and readiness to help the country build its national cadres, implement its development plans and safeguard its stability, he said.
The Somali official welcomed the statement issued by the emergency session of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, which expressed the solidarity of the sisterly Arab countries with Somalia.
He also praised the positions of many African countries in support of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The two sides agreed to continue consultations and close coordination in the coming phase, in support of Somalia and its brotherly people.
