AMMAN – Sudanese Ambassador to Jordan Hassan Saleh Hassan Siwar Al-Dahab affirmed on Friday that Egypt remains a key supporter of Sudan’s unity and the legitimacy of its institutions, underlining the longstanding and strategic ties between the two countries.
In remarks to MENA’s correspondent in Amman, the ambassador underscored that Egypt’s unwavering support for Sudan is clearly reflected in its hosting of Sudanese students in schools and universities, as well as in its efforts to strengthen economic and strategic cooperation between Cairo and Khartoum.
“Egypt is Sudan’s elder sister, while Sudan constitutes a strategic depth for Egypt. Their relationship is founded on mutual support and sustained cooperation,” Dahab said.
He also highlighted Sudan’s historic solidarity with Egypt, citing the participation of 10,000 Sudanese soldiers in the 1973 October War as clear evidence of the shared destiny and enduring unity between the two nations.
Addressing the internal conflict in Sudan since April 2023, the ambassador dismissed any notion of division or secession, stressing that even the rebel factions are not seeking to divide the country, but rather to gain control.
He affirmed that the Sudanese Armed Forces, alongside the people, remain firmly united in preserving the country’s unity and ensuring its stability.
Dahab welcomed any peace initiative that aligns with the vision of Sudan’s legitimate government, stressing that any proposal excluding the recognized authorities would be deemed unacceptable.
He added that any meaningful dialogue must be grounded in key conditions, topped by the disarmament of rebel forces and their withdrawal from occupied areas, to ensure the legitimacy and effectiveness of any future agreement.
He also noted the Arab League’s close monitoring of developments in Sudan, reaffirming its commitment to preserving the country’s unity and supporting efforts toward national dialogue and regional coordination aimed at restoring stability.
