Egypt continues Gaza relief efforts amid dire humanitarian crisis 1 - Egyptian Gazette

Humanitarian aid trucks began entering the Gaza Strip on Wednesday for the fourth consecutive day, after undergoing inspection at the Karam Abu Salem crossing in the southeastern part of the enclave.

Since early morning, the aid trucks lined up at the Rafah border crossing before heading toward Karam Abu Salem crossing through the side gate of the terminal, as part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis faced by over two million Palestinians in Gaza.

A responsible source stated that the trucks are carrying large quantities of humanitarian and relief aid, including food supplies, drinking water, infant formula, medical supplies, and personal hygiene products, in addition to the “Zad El-Ezza… From Egypt to Gaza” convoy.

A representative from the Egyptian Red Crescent said that the fourth convoy of “Zad El-Ezza… From Egypt to Gaza” comprises 1,000 tons of food, medical, and relief supplies.

These include a variety of food baskets, flour, medical equipment, and personal care items, all bound for southern Gaza via the Karam Abu Salem crossing.

The Egyptian Red Crescent, acting as the national mechanism for coordinating and dispatching aid to Gaza, has maintained a continuous presence at the border since the beginning of the crisis.

The Rafah crossing has never been fully closed from the Egyptian side, and the organization continues to operate across all its logistical hubs, with the support of approximately 35,000 volunteers.

To date, around 35,000 trucks have delivered nearly half a million tons of humanitarian and relief aid to Gaza.

On its first day, which began yesterday, the “Zad El-Ezza” convoy transported over 1,200 tons of food provided by the Egyptian Red Crescent, including about 840 tons of flour and 450 tons of assorted food baskets.

On the second day, the convoy delivered roughly 1,500 tons of aid, including 965 tons of food baskets, about 350 tons of flour, and 200 tons of personal hygiene products.

Israeli occupation forces had shut down all crossings into Gaza on March 2, following the end of the first phase of a ceasefire agreement and the failure to reach a deal to extend it.

The truce was subsequently violated with a heavy aerial bombardment on March 18, followed by renewed ground incursions into areas previously evacuated by Israeli forces.

The occupation also prevented the entry of humanitarian aid trucks, fuel, and shelter materials for displaced persons who lost their homes during the war, and blocked the entry of heavy equipment needed to remove rubble and begin reconstruction efforts.

In May, aid deliveries resumed under a mechanism implemented by the Israeli authorities and a US security firm, despite objections from the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which stated the new procedure violates established international protocols.

On Sunday, July 27, 2025, the Israeli military announced a “temporary truce” for 10 hours and suspended military operations in certain areas of Gaza to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Meanwhile, mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States continue to seek a comprehensive ceasefire agreement and a deal on the exchange of detainees and hostages.
