Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty asserted on Thursday in a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres the importance of proceeding with the formation of a Palestinian technocratic committee to pave the way for the return of the Palestinian Authority to the Gaza Strip.
He asserted Egypt’s strong rejection of any calls aimed at displacing the Palestinians from their land or altering the geographical and demographic status of the Gaza Strip.
The two sides discussed developments in the occupied Palestinian territories as well as international efforts to support a ceasefire and stabilize the situation in Gaza in addition to achieving calm in the West Bank.
Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty expounded the intensive efforts Egypt has been making to support security and stability in the region, especially those related to holding the ceasefire in Gaza Strip.
He stressed the importance of adhering to UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and ensuring the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid. Talks also covered the ongoing consultations on deploying an international stabilization force.
Abdelatty asserted the importance of joint efforts to increase the volume of humanitarian assistance to meet the daily needs of the Gaza Strip.
He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to continued coordination with regional and international partners to support Palestinian rights and empower the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and establish an independent state.
Abdelatty warned about the serious situation in the West Bank amid the worrying escalation of settler violence and the ongoing policies of land confiscation.
He noted that these actions risk further escalation and place urgent responsibility on the international community to intervene immediately to halt these violations and prevent the situation on the ground from deteriorating.
The FM highlighted the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in supporting Palestinian refugees, stressing that this role is irreplaceable and cannot be overlooked.
He also praised the UN General Assembly’s decision to renew UNRWA’s mandate for an additional three years, reflecting international confidence in the agency’s critical role and the need for its continued operations.
