CAIRO — Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soder emphasized that Egypt is an important country and a key pillar of stability in the region at a time when regional tensions are widespread.

In his speech at a celebration held on the occasion of the German Unity Day, attended by a host of prominent figures, ambassadors, and diplomats accredited to Egypt, the official expressed his expectation of a promising future for Egypt in the upcoming period and voiced hope for peace to prevail among all countries.

Egypt, for the Bavarian state, is a gateway to the African continent and a cornerstone of stability in the Middle East, he said.

For his part, German ambassador to Egypt Jurgen Schulz affirmed the strength of partnership and distinguished friendship with Egypt, particularly in the political, economic, cultural, educational, and academic fields.

He cited two Egyptian-German universities, with a total of 17,000 students, as well as 100 Egyptian-German schools.

Bilateral trade increased by 23% in 2023, reaching approximately 7 billion euros, he said, noting that Germany is one of Egypt’s top five trading partners.
