The ongoing heat wave is leading to a surge in the number of patients turning up at hospitals with heat-related illnesses and the loss of livestock, KBS World Radio reported.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on Tuesday, 53 heat-related illness cases were reported nationwide as of Sunday, including one death.
The cumulative number of patients with heat-related illnesses from May 20 to August 11 reached two-thousand-293, surpassing the two-thousand-139 tallied for the same period last year.
During the period, 21 people died from illnesses caused by extreme heat.
The heat wave also killed 703-thousand livestock between June 11 and Monday. Additionally, about 895-thousand fish were reported to have died in fish farms across the country.
