CAIRO – French Ambassador in Cairo Eric Chevalier emphasized the depth of cooperation between his country and Egypt across various fields and the close coordination between them, particularly at the leadership level between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

In statements to MENA, the ambassador described relations between Cairo and Paris as “distinctive and excellent,” noting that since assuming his duties as ambassador to Egypt about five weeks ago, he has observed the uniqueness of the relations, including on the political front, as well as socially between the two peoples.

Chevalier stated that, in his capacity as France’s ambassador in Cairo, he will strive to enhance cooperation between the two nations in line with Macron’s directives.

Regarding the regional crisis in light of the situation in the Gaza Strip, the French ambassador underscored the significant alignment in the stances of Cairo and Paris. Both countries are pursuing the same objectives, including an immediate cessation of hostilities, given the dire humanitarian situation, and the scaling up of humanitarian assistance, followed by a political settlement that must be achieved.

Concerning Egypt’s endeavors to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip before the holy month of Ramadan, Chevalier mentioned that Egypt is exerting substantial efforts in this regard, emphasizing the utmost importance of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza.

“There is significant mobilization of efforts, particularly from Egypt and also from France.”
