MOSCOW – The BRICS Summit will kicks off in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Sunday and will run for two days with President Vladimir Putin participating remotely and the Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov taking part in the summit.
The Kremlin said President Putin will join the group’s plenary session via video conference, while the foreign minister will head the Russian delegation at the summit, according to Russia Today.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the group’s leaders will discuss issues of global peace and security, the system of global governance and ways to strengthen cooperation in political, economic and cultural fields.
The group now consists of 10 members: Russia, China, India, Brazil, South Africa, as well as Egypt, the UAE, Ethiopia and Iran who joined last year and Indonesia which joined earlier this year.
Other countries, including Belarus, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia, also cooperate with the group.
