US Secretary of State Antony Blinken affirmed the US support for a responsible Syrian government chosen by the Syrian people.

During a phone call between the US secretary of state and his British counterpart David Lammy Monday, the two ministers discussed the situation in Syria, Gaza and Ukraine, according to a statement issued by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller and published on the website of the US Department of State.

According to the statement, the two ministers discussed the situation in Syria and principles adopted by the US and regional countries in the region, which should be adhered to during the transition process and the formation of a new government.

Regarding Gaza, Blinken and Lamy discussed the importance of concluding a ceasefire agreement that stipulates the release of all hostages without any further delay.

They also discussed the importance of completing the African Union (AU) mission approved by the UN Security Council (UNSC) in Somalia to confront Al-Shabaab movement and enhance security in East Africa.

As for Ukraine, the two sides stressed the need to increase security assistance, especially in light of Russia’s decision to turn to North Korea to provide it with soldiers to continue the war in Ukraine.
