CAIRO – Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo has said the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, has played a very important role in the issue of evacuating foreigners and persons with dual nationalities from the Gaza Strip, expressing thanks to Sisi for his role in evacuating nearly 100 Belgian citizens from Gaza on Thursday.
De Croo made the remarks during a joint press conference on Friday with President Sisi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
A permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip should be the current focus after the temporary ceasefire, the Belgian premier said.
The talks touched on the temporary ceasefire that took effect today and the release of 13 hostages every day, he added, noting that “we need to release more people”.
De Croo stressed the necessity of increasing humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, calling for opening more crossings by Israel to bring in further aid.
He also urged Israel to respect international humanitarian law and avoid causing human casualties in Gaza.
