BAGHDAD – Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid opened the 34th Arab League summit in Baghdad, emphasizing the “extremely complex circumstances and serious challenges” facing the Arab region, and pledging Iraq’s commitment to Arab security and stability.1

Addressing regional leaders, including Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President Rashid underscored the gravity of the current geopolitical landscape. He expressed Iraq’s deep appreciation for the Arab League’s efforts during this “delicate stage” and reiterated the nation’s adherence to United Nations principles.

A significant portion of his address focused on the Palestinian crisis.2 President Rashid condemned the “systematic genocide” against Palestinians in Gaza and other occupied territories, denouncing the Israeli aggression in the “harshest terms.” He affirmed Iraq’s rejection of actions that violate human rights and international law, asserting that these actions would not erase the Palestinian cause.

President Rashid highlighted the summit’s timing amidst economic challenges and the looming threat of war, which hinder development and the aspirations of Arab populations.3 He called for diplomatic solutions to promote regional and international stability, stressing the “historic responsibility” of Arab leaders to address the threats facing the region.

He concluded by advocating for peaceful dispute resolution through dialogue and mediation, rejecting policies of coercion, foreign interference, and the use of force.
