Arab League’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) ambassador Maged Abdel Fattah said that the Arab Group at the UN continues its effort to stop Israeli practices and violations committed against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip through three main axes; reaching a ceasefire, ensuring unimpeded access of assistance to the strip, along with firmly rejecting the forced displacement of Palestinians to the occupied Palestinian territories or any neighboring country.
The ambassador, in exclusive statements to MENA, said the Arab Group seeks to mount pressure on friendly nations in order to further the recognition of Palestine as a UN permanent member state, in line with relevant Arab ministerial resolutions, not only as an observer state.
The efforts of the Arab Group at the international level have achieved “milestones” and many positive steps towards garnering solidarity with the Palestinian cause and creating a counter-Israel front at all international platforms, specially amid the ongoing Israeli violations and acts against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Abdel Fattah highlighted key outcomes of the maintained Arab solidarity at the international level, including securing the support of 15 European Union-member states for the the UN Security Council resolution that was adopted on December 12, demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip for humanitarian reasons, ensuring unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance at scale directly to the Palestinian civilian population throughout the Gaza Strip.
He added that 153 states have voted in favor of the resolution, while 10 were against it and 23 other states abstained from voting.
Speaking about meetings on the international arena on championing the Palestinian issue, the ambassador said that the UN Security Council will convene a ministerial meeting on January 23 on the Palestinian issue, adding that a number of international summits will take place in this regard as well.
